Firearms Permits

All applicants must be at least 21 years old and have a government-issued identification to prove age and Effingham County residency.

Fees

  • $83 - this fee includes fingerprinting.
  • We accept all forms of payment (no bills larger than $20). Cards are subject to a convenience fee. 
  • Two separate checks or money orders are required one for $75 (permit) and one for $8 (fingerprinting). Note: if paying by credit/debit card there will be two transactions completed. 

Fingerprinting

After the applicant completes their application process with Probate Court, they will take Court provided paperwork to the Effingham County Jail to be fingerprinted. The Effingham County Jail is open for fingerprints from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.

On the date of your scheduled appointment you must present  government-issued identification to prove age and Effingham County residency, your expiring concealed weapons permit and tender payment. 

Gun permit renewals are $36. Probate Court accepts all forms of common payment. Fingerprints are not required. All credit/debit card transactions will be charged a convenience fee. 

Gun permit renewals may be applied for 90 days before and up to 30 days after the expiration date.  


EFFINGHAM PROBATE COURT HAS A PUBLIC TERMINAL AVALIABLE FOR THOSE WITHOUT WEB ACCESS AND/OR UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE APPLICATION PROCESS. WE WILL PROVIDE ASSISTANCE WHEN NECESSARY.
